Technical Support Engineer – Automation

Job Purpose

Responsible for supporting the business for Automation Products and services in developing and executing plans on a global basis which result in a pipeline of profitable business for the automation product group in the short, medium and long term which is consistent with the 3 year Lucy Electric business plan.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Provide technical and commercial support to the sales managers and team. 
  2. Formulate quotations and technical support data for the sales & marketing team and help negotiate technical issues at Company level
  3. Give demonstrations to both new and existing customers
  4. Train Lucy associates in existing and new Automation technology and relevance to distribution network systems
  5. Assist in identifying new products and services for development and integrate these into the Lucy service offering.
  6. Support the Lucy sales and marketing teams and take responsibility for agreed market areas as required.
  7. Support Lucy Automation projects and be responsible for handover of project from sales dept to contracts.
  8. Work with LBAN engineering and development teams in matching customer expectations to development goals and objectives.
  9. Be the Global point of contact for technical matters for Automation products and services.

 Dimensions:

 The role will necessitate a dual base operating at both Banbury and Thame in the UK. Visits to switchgear manufacturing facilities, sales offices and customers in overseas locations will also be required.

Secondary Activities / Tasks

  1. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required / instructed in order to maintain and / or improve the efficiency, quality and service provided by the Sales & Marketing Department.
  2. To undertake business travel abroad or within the UK as and when required.

Experience Knowledge & Skills

 Essential

Functional Competencies

  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and formulate technical solutions.
  • Ability to formulate and present commercial and technical quotations.
  • An understanding of contract law and terms and conditions.
  • Technical expertise in Lucy Automation and competitor technology and product offering.
  • Excellent command of spreadsheet and project planning tools

Behavioural competencies

  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Contribute regularly in knowledge sharing
  • Complete assigned tasks on schedule
  • Ensure highest standard of quality of assigned tasks
  • Ability to interact with customers and partners on a professional basis

Other Requirements

  • Electrical or mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • Technical background in automation or protection systems.
  • Experience of training at all levels on technical products.

Desirable

  • SCADA, RTU and Automation design experience
  • Project Management experience.
  • Track record of working overseas in difficult environments
